Technical Data 5 - Technical Mouldings

ΓΌ Technical Mouldings

Installation Instructions

Ensure surfaces are clean dry and free from dust, dirt or loose material.

Cut mouldings to required length measuring all windows separately as these can vary up to 20mm. Remember to allow for width of moulds and overhang when cutting Sills to length. A 40mm overhang from each side of window mould is a common occurrence but there is no set rule for this.

Width of window plus (width of mould x2) Plus 80mm = length of Sill.

Apply a 3 to 5mm bead of adhesive in a zigzag pattern to the back of the mould making sure that the adhesive is safe to use on styrene. (We use and recommend TREMCO adhesives and sealants; also for larger jobs we use ENERFOAM canisters) When using these types of adhesives make sure you leave sufficient distance between the glued area and the edge of the mould. Once applied to the mould, place in the appropriate position, pat the mould gently with your hand and then remove it, (you should have zigzag pattern left on the contact surface). Let the adhesive to tough dry (test the mould with your finger when the glue does not stick on you finger it is ready to attach, approximately one minute, a little longer on hot days.)

When attaching for the final time make sure that your mould is in the RIGHT position because when the glue is applied correctly there is very LITTLE or NO room for error. If the mould is in the wrong position and the glue has gone off, the mould will have to be removed, usually destroying the mould. On larger moulds nails can be placed under the mould for support e.g. Parapets and large stringer moulds. Never use nails or screws through the moulds.

Apply a bead of polyurethane sealant (TREMCO: TREMfil Polycarbonate Sealant is ideal for this) to all outer edges of the mouldings and joints. Smooth off sealant, ensuring there are no gaps that may allow moisture to get behind the moulding and break down the adhesive.

Wipe off excess sealant before the sealant skins.

If ends are not mitred and cut off, make sure all exposed areas are coated with a render type coating.

Installed mouldings can be painted one hour after installation.

Painting or sealing the moulds is advisable before any sign of rain or installing on finished or textured surfaces.

TOOLS REQUIRED FOR INSTALLATION:

Hand saw with mitre box

Caulking Gun

Adhesive (Polystyrene safe)

Polycarbonate Sealant

Tape measure & Pencil

Sharp Blade Knife

Hint  You may use cut off sections of mouldings as sanding blocks.
